Spontaneous Swiss Acrobats

Grahamstown Fest was a whirlwind of cold weather and jazz and sometimes a bit or a blur. However one of the things that was really different and unique was Spontaneous Swiss Acrobats.

I had no idea what I was in for when I went to go watch these guys.

Its main instigators are a Swiss duo of Andreas Schaerer (vocals) and Bänz Oester (double bass).

Andreas made rhythms and melodies that made me wonder why people bother with instruments – until of course I remembered that the rest of the less vocally talented world also should be allowed to make music.

Bänz flirts with traditional playing of double bass – then leaves it for the far more exciting mad methods (at one point his chin was involved in the playing).

Déborah Tanguy (vocals) from France and Mark Fransman (sax and piano) from our beloved Cape Town completed the wonderful troop of acrobats.

The performance is fun and a little bit crazy and all round astonishing.

If you missed them at Grahamstown they are playing in Cape Town this friday 8th July at Silent Revolution Winter Jazz Series

Trust me its worth it.
